Chapter Five - Breakfast with Miley

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
*~*NICK’S POV*~*
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

“Nick!” I heard my oldest brother yell from down the hall. “Nick!” he repeated. I just rolled over in my bed, not wanting to get up yet. “Nick, breakfast time!” he yelled one last time before I actually started to get out of bed. Food has to be the only thing that can actually get me wake in the morning.

I dawdled out of my room and into the bathroom across the hall in the desire to take a shower. Crushing my hopes, Joe comes up behind me and pulls me out of the bathroom and back into the hallway.

“No time for a shower, little dude. Just drench yourself in cologne and your girlfriend will never know the difference.” Only Joe would put air quotes around “girlfriend”. I just stared at him for a couple of seconds in complete confusion before he started to explain. “It is already 7:40. Just get dressed quickly or we are leaving without you.” He shoved me back into my room forcefully.

“Leave for what?” I questioned but Joe had slammed my door shut without even answering. I decided to actually listen to him without questioning anymore. I dressed myself in a pain of black skinny jeans, a light purple dress shirt with the sleeves pushed up and a black and white striped skinny tie.

Once downstairs, my brothers are already on their way out to the car. I run to the counter to pick up my wallet and cell phone then jet out the door to follow my brothers. After jumping into the car about an instant before Kevin starts to pull down the driveway, I ask them why we are in such a rush.

“Breakfast with Miley for her new music video,” Kevin answered a smirk. I huffed and fell back in my seat. I have been “dating” Miley for quite some time now but I stopped liking her a while ago too. My brothers persuaded me to stay with her for publicity reasons. If I break up with her, every teen magazine with criticize me for being the bad guy, the heartbreaker. A bad reputation would never be good for our band.

“Don’t worry little bro,” Joe started to comfort me by placing a hand on my shoulder. I looked over at him with disbelief in my eyes. He never tried to console me about this whole Miley subject. “The background dancers are going to be there! Just think about all the hott girls!” I rolled my eyes and at my brother’s statement.

Soon enough, we arrived at a high class breakfast restaurant. There were about three top of the line, very expensive looking sports car sitting in the parking lot outside.

“Or they all could be spoiled, snobby, Daddy’s girls,” I told Joe as we piled out of the car, commenting on the cars. We started to walk up the wooden steps that leaded to the main doors.

“At least you will be used to it. I doubt any of them can be worse than Miley,” he joked back as we walked in. I was turned around walking backwards as I pretended to talk to Kevin about something. The longer I hold off having to talk to Miley the better. Unfortunately I could hear my name being screeched behind me. I turn around to find Miley scurrying over to greet me.

“Morning, Miles,” I greeted as I wrapped my arms around her waist. Only in response to her flinging her arms around my neck, might I add. This was pretty much the last situation I wanted to be in at the moment. Luckily, as soon as Miley started to lean in to kiss me, the door behind me opened with a ding causing Miley to step back slightly. Talk about saved by the bell.

“Christina!” Miley exclaimed and basically ran out of my arms. I have met Christina in multiple occurrences since she has been a background dancer for both Miley and my friend Demi Lovato in the past. “You must be Melissa.” I had never heard that name in Miley’s pointless babbles on the phone every night…every night. “You guys are late.”

“Only fashionably,” Melissa commented in an I-don’t-care manner and rolled her eyes. Miley started to glare at her for the smart aleck remark. Melissa didn’t take much notice for she started to make her way over to the table where the other dancers were. Joe started to laugh ever so slightly but I elbowed him in the gut before anyone else realized his immature antics.

“She’s not like the rest of them,” Joe whispered from behind me. I turned around to look at him and he was raising his eyebrows in a flirtatious fashion. Miley took my hand and started to pull me toward the table before I could respond to my brother.

“Common, Nicky! Let’s go get something to eat.”

*~*MELISSA’S POV*~*
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

About halfway through breakfast I excused myself to go to the bathroom. I was completely shocked that I haven’t spazzed out because I was sitting directly across the table from JOE JONAS! I’m pretty sure our feet bumped a couple of times, too! Once I was in the privacy of the ladies restroom, I couldn’t help but let out a high pitched squeal. A happy dance also uncontrollably started within me and I couldn’t help but explode in embarrassing dance moves.

“What on Earth are you going?” someone entered the bathroom and asked. I jumped about three feet in the air and screamed at the top of my lungs in response.

“Way to give me a heart attack!” I exclaimed when I realized that it was just Christina. Her laughter started to fill the room as she made fun of me for happy dancing. “What do you want?” I questioned as her laughter finally came to an end.

“Will you at least pretend that you are having fun out there?” She asked rudely in a know-it-all voice. “We all know that you don’t want to be there and you are making a bad first impression with Miley.”

“Oh, I thought you already had that covered for me. Seeing as you basically got me this spot in the video,” I retorted. The questioning look she was giving me was completely fake, she was just trying to cover up the mistake she had done. “Don’t give me that look. The way you and Miley act, you must know each other pretty well which means you were a shoe in no matter who your partner at the auditions was.” Storming out of the bathroom was the only thing that I could think of doing after that. But before I could make it even halfway out there door, Christina grabbed my by the arm and pulled me back in.

“A spot in Miley’s music video is hard to come by! You should be happy that I got you this spot!” she yelled back at me upset that I had accused her of being wrong.

“Happy? I would have like to get the spot on my own! I should have gotten it on my dancing ability instead of being stuck with being partners with you!” I tried once more to storm out of the bathroom and this time I actually did. The only thing on my mind was leaving this entire breakfast. Leaving this horrible awkward experience in the dust.

“You wouldn’t be here without me, you can’t leave!” I heard Christina yell behind me. By this time I was already back at the table where everyone was leaving.

“I would be better off if I never even met you!”

“Then you should just leave!”

“That was the plan!” Grabbing my purse off the floor next to the chair I was sitting in – across from JOE JONAS, I still couldn’t get over that – I began to make my way toward to door.

“Why don’t you just leave the whole project,” Christina yelled once more. There was a chorus of loud yelling no’s at the table. Apparently the other dancers wanted me to stay. That made me feel a little bit better.

“Maybe I should!!” After that, I left the restaurant and slammed the door shut, soon realizing that Christina drove me here so I had no way of getting home. I walked down a couple of steps and slumped into the sitting position as the wood step creaked underneath me. Then I used my brain for the first time all day and pulled my cell phone out of my purse so I could call my dad to come pick me up.

*~*JOE’S POV*~*
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

“She’s not going anywhere, I gave her a ride here,” the girl named Christine huffed as she flopped in her chair next to Miley.

“I think someone should go talk to her,” the dancer across from Miley said. I still didn’t know any of their names. Well, I knew Christina because I have worked with her on something for Miley before. Stop Nick for making to do things for the witch. And I know Melissa’s name because she had been sitting across from me the short time she was actually here. And it is kind of hard not to know the name of the girl making all the commotion. So I guess I only don’t know two of their names.

“I think you should go Miley, it is your video. Go tell her that you want her to stay,” the one dancer that hadn’t said anything finally piped in. Miley honestly looked shocked and – dare I say it? – disappointed at the scene in front of her. Did she really care that Melissa was upset? Was she worried about the girls feelings or just worried about trying to find someone to replace her on such short notice.

“I don’t think anyone should go after her. If she really wanted to be here, she would come back in,” Christina commented. This girl was getting on my nerves. She is just as bad as Miley.

“You don’t even know her,” my younger brother pointed out. Miley turned to look at him. Christina was sitting next to Miley but Nick was on the other side of her. She gave him a light smile and rested her hand on top of his which was on the table. Why is she acting human and Christina turning into the snob. I don’t think I have ever seen her be this rude before.

“None of us know her know her. She should stop judging and hating us,” Christina commented once again.

“I don’t think she hates us, she was nice to me,” the dancer with blonde hair across from Nick and diagonal from my commented. Let me explain the seating arrangements, I’m starting to confuse myself. There are four people on both sides of the table. One my side from left to right it was my, Nick, Miley then Christina. Melissa sat across from me and next to her were the blonde dancer, then the brunette dancer, then my older brother Kevin. Now I’m a lot less confused.

“Yeah, I think you just tick her off, Christina,” I laughed and she glared at me in return. Her evil eye actually does scare me sometimes so I decided to keep my mouth shut.

“Someone needs to go talk to her, end of story,” Kevin told the group. I agree with him but no one volunteered to go out there. We sat in silence for a minute or so, no one wanting to go have an awkward conversation because none of us really know here. I began to get out of my chair to go talk to her. I’m outgoing enough that it can’t be that awkward. “Joe?”

“I’m gonna go talk to her, this isn’t as big of a deal as you guys are making it.”

Chapter Four - New Side

I woke up the next morning the sound of the ring tone on my cell phone.

But I miss screaming and fighting and kissing in the rain
And it's 2am and I'm cursing your name
You're so in love that you act insane
And that's the way I loved you
Breakin' down and coming undone
It's a roller coaster kinda rush
And I never knew I could feel that much
And that's the way I loved you

My favorite Taylor Swift song filled the room but right now I couldn’t hate it more. I rolled over too look at the alarm clock next to my bed which said it was 6:30am. 6:30am?!? Who on earth is calling me so early? I grabbed my phone off the nightstand and answered it. The number was unknown but I was too tired to care.

“Hello?” I groggily questioned as I put the phone to my ear.

“Melissa! We made it!”

“Made what?” I angrily demanded. It was 6:30 in the morning and whoever this was, was bring really loud.

“Made it to the moon,” the girly voice sarcastically replied. Sarcasm doesn’t really register in my mind when I’m half asleep so I started squinting my eyes in confusion. “We got the part in the video, stupid.”

“What video?” Nothing was registering in my mind this morning.

“Miley’s music video! Are you hung over?”

“Who is this?” I asked ignoring her previous question.

“Christina! Who else would it be?” You could tell that she thinks I’m this stupidest person on earth right now. It’s not my fault it is 6:30 in the morning!

“Why are you calling me?” my voice overflowing with distaste. She was the last person I wanted to talk to this early. I just couldn’t get over the fact that I’m awake so early in the morning.

“Because we got the gig! Are you happy dancing?”

“Of course I’m not!” I exclaimed suddenly becoming mad. “It is 6:30! All I should be doing is sleeping.”

“No, all you should be doing is getting ready.”

“Ready for what?” anger was completely taking over my voice.

“Why are you so angry?”

“You! You don’t like me for some strange reason and you are waking me up at 6:30 to tell me something that you could very easily tell me in three more hours.”

“That’s a lie!”

“What is so urgent that you have to wake me up to tell me then?”

“Miley wants to treat all the dancers to breakfast at eight. Get up and get ready, I will be at your house at 7:30.” Christina dropped the excited act and actually sounded like the girl I met the day before. The line went dead without giving me a chance to say anything back.

Oh boy, breakfast with Miley. What a horrible start to what I thought was going to be a good day. I couldn’t imagine anything more awkward. I don’t get along with Christina, I don’t like Miley at all – at least from what I have heard about her – and I don’t even know anyone else that is going to be there.

Did Christina say she was going to pick me up? How does even know where I live? Is she just an ultimate stalker? I wouldn’t be surprised…

So, I pulled the covers off of my body and forced myself out of bed to go take a shower. I lost track of time and didn’t really know how long I had been in there but I was soon forced out by my favorite Taylor Swift song filling the bathroom.

“What now?” I huffed aloud and exited the shower and wrapping a towel around myself. Marching over to the other side of the bathroom where my ringing cell phone sat on the counter, I angrily mumbled to myself, no real words being created. Christina’s name was flashing on the screen for the second time today. “You have got to be kidding me.” After the phone call this morning I decided to program her number into my phone just incase something like that were to ever happen again. With a scold on my face, I reluctantly flipped my phone open. “Yes, princess?”

“You are finally learning how things work around here,” she replied in that smug voice of hers. I put the phone on speaker phone so I could put my hair up into a towel while still being able to hear her. But I wish I didn’t have to talk to her at all.

“What do you want?” I questioned angrily, flipping my head over to tie a towel around my still dripping hair.

“Sheesh! I’m going to be at your house in five minutes. I just wanted to give you a little heads up.” My head shot up faster than I thought was possible, the towel I had just put on my hair disconnecting itself from my head and falling to the ground in the process.

“Five minutes?!” I screamed in shock.

“Yeah, don’t tell me you fell back to sleep,” she accused me. Does she really think that little of me?

“I’m more responsible than that, thank you very much.”

“Then what’s the problem?”

“I just got out of the shower,” I muttered trying to make it so she couldn’t hear me. Of course I had no such luck.

“Are you kidding me?!” Christina yelled. I covered up the phone to muffle the frantic screams. She scares me so much. It was like a minute before I decided to uncover the phone again and she was still yelling. Now she was just overreacting.

“I have to go change now, bye,” I interrupted her rant and clicked my phone shut before giving her a chance to say anything back. Next thing I knew, my legs were sprinting down the hall and back into my room without my brain having knowledge of this action. I slipped into a pair of electric blue skinny jeans, a light gray tank top and a short sleeve piano print hoodie. As I ran down the stairs and out of the house I stepped into a pair of black Converse’s without tying the laces.

My feet stopped dead in their tracks as I gawked at a shiny, black limo parked in my driveway. There is no way that this girl is serious! We are just going to flipping breakfast.

“That is no acceptable,” Christina commented as she climbed out of the back of the limo. I’m surprised she even opened the door herself. She was dressed in a denim school girl style mini skirt and light green tank top with a pale yellow tube top over it. The green in her outfit really made her green eyes pop. I gave her a questioning look and before I could even ask what she was talking about, she answered it. “Your outfit, it won’t do. Let’s go back inside and I will pick out something better.”

I rolled my eyes, turned around to go back inside and silently cursed myself for having zero backbone. I walked back up to my room with Christina walking right on my heels. She rushed over to my closet the second we entered my room.

“I don’t see what is wrong with what I’m already wearing,” I told her as she rummaged through my – I must admit is on the larger side – closet.

“Nothing is really wrong with it in general,” she started and pulled out a couple of outfits and placed them on my bed. “It would be cute for just like school or going to the movies with friends, but it is definitely not breakfast with Miley Cyrus material.”

“Did you just somewhat compliment my outfit?” I asked, slightly awkward. I didn’t know it was possible for her to say something nice to me.

“Is that The Jonas Brothers all over your wall?” she questioned back ignoring my previous question. I turned to look in the direction that her sight was directed. Indeed, that wall was covered with Jonas Brothers posters. I was slightly embarrassed by my obsession with these three boys. I was made fun of for it quite frequently back home on the east coast but Annabelle and I stuck through it together. Maybe since I’m in LA now it will be different.

I nodded my head in response to her question and she just smiled genuinely. I didn’t like this nice side of her. First impressions mean a lot to me and she made a really bad one. I don’t really hate Christina; I just don’t like her very much.

“They are going to be at our breakfast today,” she commented and started looking through all the outfits she pulled out of my closet. My breath caught in my throat. Am I really going to meet them today? My heart started beating fast then it ever had before, including my first ever kiss. But that is a different story for a different time.

“Are you serious?” I asked trying to sound calm but it came out as an excited squeak.

“Yep, this is what happens when you get into show biz in LA. You get to meet people you never thought you would have,” she answered with a grin. “They are going to be part of Miley’s video and she is treating everyone to breakfast.” I started to bounce ever so slightly where I was standing as thrill started to take over my body. Of course Christina started to laugh at me but I didn’t mind much. “Now go put these on, it will look great on you.”

I floated out of my room and down the hall to the bathroom as if I were on cloud nine. I could barely even wrap my mind around the fact that I’m going to meet my three favorite guys in the world, behind my dad and Andrew of course. The outfit Christina picked out for me was actually pretty nice. It was a brown and white floral spaghetti strap sun dress with a light blue cropped, short sleeved cardigan over it. I completely forgot that I even had these clothes.

Once back in my room, Christina helped me with my make-up and it apparently made my eyes look “dazzling”. She also did my hair; half up-half down style in curls. According to her I was now Miley Cyrus appropriate and we left for breakfast a little on the late side. I couldn’t believe how nice Christina was being, it was a side of her that I had never seen before. It was a little too good to believe.

Chapter Three - Trial Run

Andrew, my dad, Melina and I were all piled into the one family car that we have. It is still a rental car might I add. We are on our way to my audition. I needed Andrew there for mental support and I decided to make it up to Melina. Since I didn’t really tell her about my audition, I decided to take her to it.

Lina and I sat up in my room for about two hours trying to decide what I should wear. I ended up picking a black tank top and camouflage cargo short shorts with black dance shoes. I put my shoulder length brown hair into pigtails and curled them. Then I completed the outfit with a camo hat.

“Are you excited?” my father turned around and asked me when we were stopped at a red light about five minutes away from the studio. As much as I didn’t want to admit it, this audition meant a lot to me. I might not want to work with Miley but I still want the part. I don’t want a bad reputation by bombing my first audition.

“Omg!!” Andrew mocked. “I can’t wait to meet Miley!” He was talking in a high pitched girly voice. Lina tried to cover up the laughter she was holding back but I just rolled my eyes. “Hi, I’m Melissa and I’m going to be come best friends with Miley!” he continued.

“I don’t talk like that,” I muttered and everyone in the car started to laugh.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

“Can we have all the dancers over here please?” the woman leading the auditions called. I hugged Melina and smiled at Andrew and my dad before walking off in the same direction that all the other girls were walking.

“Good luck, little sis!” Andrew yelled after me. I turned around to glare at him. He was 5 minutes older than me and never let me forget it. Instead of retaliating, I continued walking toward the woman that called all the dancers over.

She took all 30 of the girls trying out into a back room and showed us the routine we would be auditioning with. Once we learned it step by step, we got paired off and told to work with our partners and help each other perfect the routine.

“Who are you? GI Jane?” my partner rudely questioned when she appeared in front of me, glaring at me with her emerald green eyes. Obviously she didn’t approve of my outfit. Who on earth does she think she is?

“You shouldn’t be talking, Thumbelina,” I retorted. She had to be 5’2 or 5’3. I’m 5’5 and I thought I was short. She scoffed and started to walk away but I grabbed her arm before she could get too far.

“Get off of me!” she exclaimed. It was clear that she thought she was some sort of princess and everyone should worship the ground she walks on. Boy was she in for a rude awakening. She tried to snap her arm away from me but I was stronger than her so I of course won.

“We have to start practicing, Miss Center of the Universe,” I told her.

“Not until you unhand me!”

“As you wish, Princess Stuck-up.” I let go of her arm and she still viciously snatched it away from me. Attitude much?

“That’s Princess Christina to you,” she scoffed once again, brushed her hands through her jet black hair so it was back in perfect place, and began to walk away. “C’mon…you,” she instructed me without even turning around to look at me. “We have to go someplace a little more private before I share my genius skills with you.”

I rolled my eyes and ran to catch up with her. The video we were auditioning for only needed four back up dancers and the deal with the partners was that either both of you made it or neither of you did. I figured I should at least try to get along with Christina – the little snot that she is – because I might have to spend the next week or so working with her.

“I’m Melissa by the way.”

“Like I care.”

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Christina and I got to practice for about an hour because we were the last pair to be called into the audition room. I must say that we had the routine down pretty well, I was actually confident about it.

But we did have to battle through a lot of insulting before we could get anywhere in the routine. First, Christina would rudely tell me I was doing the move wrong and call me incompetent. Which caused me to call her an ill-mannered witch. Then, she would just glare at me and refuse to start practicing again until I apologized; which of course I did.

“That was really great, girls!” the women coordinating the audition exclaimed once we finished performing it for her and the other people judging us.

“Oh, I know,” Christina mumbled to herself while she roller her eyes. Thank god it wasn’t loud enough for anyone else but me to hear it. I elbowed her in the arm her head snapped up to glare at me.

“Thank you, we worked really hard on it,” I told everyone in the room. Christina just rolled her eyes again. Boy was this attitude getting annoying. I elbowed her arm for the second time, this time a little harder.

“Yeah, thanks,” she scoffed and put on the fakest smile I have ever seen.

“I think you girls have a very good chance of making it here,” the coordinated announced and Christina’s smile became a little less fake and her eyes started to brighten. “We all still need to discuss this and you girls will find out if you made it in the morning.” Christina and I both thanked everyone in the room for the last time – Christina was surprisingly genuine – before walking out of the room to meet the people we had come with.

“Did we beast that or what?” I joked with a huge smile once the door to the audition room clicked shut.

“Well…I know I did,” she replied before scurrying off in front of me to join her mother. I was so done trying to be nice to her. I heard Andrew yell my name on the other side of the room and I ran towards him to give him a hug.

“How did it go?” he asked when he let go of me.

“It actually went shockingly well,” I told him then hugged Melina who hugged back ever so tight. “The coordinator told me that Christina and I basically got the spot.”

“Christina?” Andrew questioned.

“I don’t want to talk about her,” I sneered. He could instantly tell that I didn’t like her. “Witch,” I mouthed to Melina and she tried to hold back her laughter.

“Let’s go home,” my dad announced and we all started to walk outside toward the car. I flung my right arm over my brother’s shoulder and my left arm over Melina’s. They made the horrible afternoon I had with Christina so much better by just being here for me.

Chapter Two - Meet the Devonport's

I couldn't believe it. We were actually in LA. And hour house was basically all set up for us by the time we got there. Thank god for movers. My brother and I were in this huge recreational basement playing Guitar Hero on a TV that was the size of the wall. Dad told us that he bought it for the family as a moving in present. I don't think it could have gotten any better.

My mom opened up the door to the basement yelling at us to come upstairs and meet out new neighbors. I guess some home-maker lady came to our door trying to greet us into the neighborhood, carrying a dish full of homemade cookies. My brother and I slowly made out way upstairs, not wanting to leave the comfort of our new favorite room.

"Melissa, Andrew come meet the Devonport's," our mother instructed us when we finally entered the living room. To our surprise, they weren’t old at all. They were about the same age as my parents. Maybe even younger. They had a daughter that looked to be my age.

“Hello, Mr. and Mrs. Devonport,” I stated and stuck out my hand to shake theirs. “I’m Melissa and this is my brother Andrew.” They smiled in a very lovingly even though they had just met us.

“You can call me Isabelle. This is my husband Paul and my daughter Melina,” Mrs. Devonport introduced herself and the rest of her family.

“Hey! Our names kind of match,” I said happily to Melina. She smile and nodded happily. She seemed really shy so I decided to open up to her. I needed a friend, seeing as I don’t know anyone here in LA. “You wanna come play Guitar Hero with me and my brother?” I asked her nicely with a friendly smile.

“Sure,” she replied very excitedly and the three of us ran off in the direction of the basement.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Melina and I clicked instantly. Sure she was shy at first but once I broke through that barrier, we became really close friends. Before I knew it, I was only in LA for a week and Melina and I were already having sleepovers and spending almost every minute of everyday together.

Andrew and Melina didn’t get along that well at first. I think he was just mad that I had a friend and he didn’t. He didn’t expect either of us to make friends so fast; he was planning on spending the first week or so with just me. A little brother sister bonding. But I became friends with Melina our first full day in LA and kinda left my brother in the dust. He became friends with a boy name Grant Dillon from down the street and now he likes Melina more.

“Girls! Breakfast is ready!” my mother called from downstairs in the kitchen. I grunted angrily and rolled over wanting to fall back asleep. I was now facing Lina’s sleeping body. We shared my queen size bed so neither of us had to sleep on the floor. I couldn’t help but laugh as Lina’s long, slightly poofy, brown hair made basically an afro around her head.

“Melina, time to wake up,” I whispered while gently shaking her arm. She still laid there basically lifeless. “Melina!” I shouted in her face. She screamed out of fear, rolled over trying to get away from my yelling, and fell of the side of the bed. After landing on the ground with thud, Lina just glared at me. “Good morning, sunshine!” I smiled and rolled out of bed. I decided to go downstairs in just my pj’s; blue shorts and a white tank top. “Breakfast time! Let’s go.”

The second we stepped in the kitchen, my brother saw us and he started to laugh. I guessed it was at Melina’s hair so I just decided to ignore him. I grabbed a stack of pancakes that was waiting for on the counter before making my way over to the table. Melina slapped the back of Andrew’s head before also picking up a plate of pancakes and joined me at the table.

“Melissa,” my father greeted me upon entering the house with the newspaper and his daily dose of Starbucks in hand. “Don’t forget about your audition at noon.” I can’t believe I forgot. This is what I came to LA for! I can’t wait; this is going to be great.

“Audition?” Melina questioned. I can’t believe I haven’t told her about this. She must be hurt. I would be if I was in her position.

“Yep,” my brother answered before I got a chance to. “Lissa here is trying out to be a backup dancer in Miley Cyrus’ next music video.” Melina looked a little upset at first but then she genuinely smiled at me showing that just finding out now didn’t both her that much.

“That sounds like some much fun,” she laughed excitedly. “But isn’t Miley like a complete snot?”

“That’s what I said when my dad told me about this audition. He talked me into ‘not reading a book by its cover’, I still think that she is completely fun of herself, just don’t tell my dad,” I told her and took a huge mouthful of my pancakes drenched in syrup. “I’m just using this as like a trial run so I know what its like to audition. So I know what is going on for a part that I actually want. If I actually have to work with Miley, I’m pretty sure I will kill myself.”

“Oh yeah, Lissa,” my brother commented. “That sounds like such a good plan.” Sarcasm was dripping all over his voice.

“No one asked you, Andrew,” I replied and rolled my eyes. Melina couldn’t help but laugh as my brother and I argue. “You have to help me pick out an outfit!” I told her and we both jumped from spots at the table and scurried upstairs.

“You have to clean…” Andrew started to yell at me for not clearing the dishes off the table before leaving.

“Can you handle that, twinie?!” I yelled. “Thank!” I yelled once again before even giving him a chance to answer. I knew he was rolling his eyes without even needing to see him.

Chapter One - Half a Heart

by snickerdoodle1353

My eyes slowly start to close as I watch trees, buildings, and other cars speed by outside my car window. But every time I actually realized that I was falling asleep I forced my eyes to open wide and stay awake. There is no why on earth I’m going to miss seeing our new house as we pull into the driveway for the first time. Andrew, my twin brother, is already passed out in the seat next to me. Sure, it is only 6:30 at night and I’m already about to fall asleep. Today has been the longest day ever and this is what jetlag can do to a person.

It started this morning when I had to wake up super early. I didn’t have to be at the airport until noon but I still had a lot to do before we left. Everything was already packed, that wasn’t the problem. Saying goodbye to all the people I care about was the issue.

*~*FLASHBACK*~*
“I can’t believe you are leaving me,” my best friend Annabelle exploded as she entered my house. The doorbell had just rang and as soon as I open the door, she comes storming in. Annabelle has been my best friend since we were born. Even before we were born! Our moms were best friends in college. Annabelle and I were born four months apart – give or take a few days – so we have known each other our entire lives.

I laughed as she grabbed a bag of chips off the counter and sat on one of the beanbag chairs in the middle of the empty living room. She always made herself at home here. It was like her second home. My family packed up all of our furniture yesterday and it is already on its way to California. But we needed some furniture for last night and this morning. Hence the beanbag chairs.

“Anna! I was going to take those on the plane!” Andrew yelled at her, snatching them from her.

“Well now I’m eating them,” she replied and took the chips back. “You just have to get over it,” she joked back with a huge smirk on her face. My brother rolled his eyes and walked away. Only seconds later did he return to put Anna in a headlock.

“Give them back!” Andrew exclaimed as her practically tackled her. He has always seen Anna as another sister to torture. She has always been a sister to me. That’s why this was going to be so painful.

The three of us just sat in a circle talking and laughing for about half an hour. We didn’t act like anything was wrong. I actually forgot about leaving for awhile. That was until Anna’s parents came to say goodbye to me and my family. That meant we were leaving soon. Reality finally hit; Anna and I instinctively grabbed each others hands, never wanting to let go.

“Jen, call me the minute you all get to your new house so I will know you are alright,” Mrs. Jacobs told my mom.

“Of course, of course,” my mother replied.

We all got lead out the door of our now old house, carrying all of our belongings behind us. My brother and I climbed into the back seats of the family mini van, leaving the door open so I could still talk to Anna.

“You have to call me as soon as you get to LA! As soon at the plane lands! I need to know every little detail about what it is like there,” Anna demanded me.

“Duh!” I exclaimed and hugged my best friend.

“You two are just like your mothers,” my brother pointed out with a quirky smirk on his face.

“Good!” Anna instantly retorted. “That means we will be best friends forever and ever.” Both of our mothers smiled after hearing that and gave each other a final hug goodbye.

“No matter how far apart we are,” I added. My mom and dad were now in the car and Mr. and Mrs. Jacobs were standing off to the side waiting for Anna to join them. “I guess this is goodbye…” I sadly trailed off.

“I guess it is…” Tears started to swell up in both of our eyes. We hugged one last time before sliding the door of the mini van shut. The tears I was trying to hold back immediately began to flow down my face. Anna joined her family, turned back to me, and held out one of her hands. It was in the shape of a half heart. I pressed my hand to the window of the car. It was also in the shape of half a heart.

My father started to put the car down the driveway and I began to uncontrollably sob. Andrew put his arm around me in a brotherly way and I started to feel a little better.

“This isn’t going to be forever, Melissa,” he told me. “You will see her again. Knowing you two, it will be within our first two weeks in LA.”
*~*END FLASHBACK*~*

After that, we sat in the airport for 37 hours. Ok…it was only about three. Who knew that flying took so much preparation! I don’t even know how long to plane ride took. I lost my ability to tell time a long time ago. Time changes confuse me to no end. Once in LA, the airport lost my entire families luggage. How they lose that much luggage? I have no idea. But it took a couple hours to find everything.

Since we didn’t have our mini van in California (don’t ask me how we are getting that back), we had to take a cab to our new house. It is really really hard to get a taxi in LA. I advise you to save your time and walk wherever you are going.

So here we are, in a cab on the way to my house at 6:30 and I already want to go to sleep. I refuse for that to happen though. There is no way I’m missing…

“Here we are,” the cab drive announced to me and my family. I started to bounce in my seat as the excitement started to build up inside of me. There were multiple moving trucks parked on the curb right in front and they were all almost empty. Movers rushed in and out, carrying everything that I had grown close to. Everything from my old house was here, so it’s not like I had to start out in some strange new place.

I jumped out of the car and ran into the house. The first thing I did was run upstairs to try and find my room. My father told me it was going to be purple. I entered a room with grey-ish walls. That has to be Andrew’s. The next room I go in is…a bathroom. Sure, it was pretty for a bathroom. But it wasn’t my bedroom! I tried another room and there were two men standing in it moving around a desk. That’s not the important part. Around the men were bright purple walls! I found my room!

I hugged the men – they looked rather scared when I did this – before scurrying back downstairs to explore the rest of the house.
